Running the Survey
It never rains in western Kansas. Or so we were told. That is, until we decided to dig the basement for the future assisted living facility in Lakin. We had no more dug the final scoop of dirt from the basement excavation than the skies opened up and the rain began to fall. Now not only did we have to drain the swimming pool that was created, but now we also had to make up time in the schedule.
Laying the Foundation
After days of watching the basement excavation fill with water, our crews developed a plan to mitigate the weather delays and complete the project on schedule. Our project team had to coordinate with the staff on a daily basis throughout the project to ensure that the existing facility was not disturbed while the addition and remodel work was completed.
The Finishing Touches
Our project team was able to deliver under budget, which freed funds to use on other parts of the facility. One way they used these savings was to replace windows in the existing nursing home wing, which in turn has reduced their energy bills. The centerpiece of the facility is the community fireplace that divides the two wings. Residents are able to gather in the space and share coffee, lunch, cards or board games. The finishes throughout the facility are warm and inviting, with earth tones and rich wood accents.
