Running the Survey
The city and school district of Arkansas City share the sports complex across the street from the Arkansas City High School. The job was not without weather challenges during the spring months, but we continued to install the field fence systems, earthwork and slab on grade for the buildings in spite of the weather. A completely outdoor project will involve more weather-related challenges, but we plan for that from the start while building our schedule. Delivery to the owner is something we take seriously.
Laying the Foundation
Thanks to smooth collaboration among the city, school district and architect, we met the needs of both the city and schools. In spite of an abundance of rain early in the process, we were able to accomplish all on time and under budget. Because of our ability to estimate cost and absorb challenges within the schedule, we were able to inform city and school of additional reserves and savings that would be available to them. They chose to use a portion of these funds to purchase shade structures for the bleachers and dugouts, which make their complex even better than they had imagined it could be at the start.
The Finishing Touches
Existing ball fields were upgraded, additional softball and t-ball fields were added along with a soccer field. New restrooms, locker rooms and concession stand were constructed all in one building. A new playground and maintenance building were built as well. This complex is one that will serve the community and district well for years to come. Whether it is spring, summer or fall, this will be a center of activity. It may be a team working together toward a championship, a family cheering on a child hitting the ball or scoring a goal for the first time, or simply a child having fun on the playground. We are happy to be playing our position and helping construct projects that are a part of peoples’ lives.
