Running the Survey

This project presented the unique opportunity to match the natural beauty of the land development and building to the needs of the client and desired exposure to their patients. The development incorporated a portion of Cow Skin Creek to the east along with a number of mature trees that it was important to maintain to preserve the natural habitat. The project site offered both challenges and opportunities due to the overall slope across the parcel, which opened the possibility for a two-story building in the front and single story in the back. This allowed for an easy decision to place the back-of-house functions versus the elements requiring natural light.

Laying the Foundation

Initially we began work on the development directly with the site developer, striking an accord with a Design-Build approach for the project delivery method. Soon after, we established the project team members including the tenant, architects and civil engineers and worked closely to develop the initial elements of the project and to define the overall financial and spatial needs. This proved to be somewhat of a challenge since the needs outweighed the financial limitations. Through creative teamwork, spatial needs and constructive elements were analyzed to help streamline both space and costs to solidify overall goals for the project.

The Finishing Touches

To help blend with the rustic natural surroundings, elements of pre-cast concrete, faux stone and plaster accented the exterior. The solution for the interior began with a warm open feeling accented with natural light from the mall clerestory windows running through the center of the building providing an inviting path to the various functions of the facility. Special attention to colors, textures and lighting helped provide a warm, comfortable atmosphere throughout. A glass handrail from the second floor lobby overlooking the lower level mall lobby gives the appearance openness from both above and below.
