Running the Survey
The days of staying in a hospital for days after a minor surgery are over. The Ridgewood Surgery Center was designed and constructed to stand the test of time with the patient in mind. This design build project incorporated an Ambulatory Surgical Center and Medical Office Building into one campus. The challenge for the project team was that building codes required the two buildings to be separate, but the owner’s vision was for a seamless campus.
Laying the Foundation
Due to code restraints, the decision was made to use a precast concrete structure to meet code and reduce the effect of two separate structures. The Hutton team, working with the design team, fabricated the architectural precast panels in our yard and shipped them to the jobsite for erection. The stair towers on the two-story Medical Office Building created a challenge because they were too large to ship, so they were cast on site.
The Finishing Touches
The exterior is constructed of a maintenance-free concrete shell, but the interior is a warm and inviting space. The waiting area incorporated floor-to-ceiling windows to allow natural light to flow into the space.
