Running the Survey

When Mid-Continent Instruments needed more space for a growing engineering department, they knew just who to turn to – the same contractor that built their original building 13 years before. Constructed of concrete tilt-up panels, the facility looks as good now as it did when Hutton Construction built it in 1997. Mid-Continent wanted to add on in a way that would minimize disruption and blend seamlessly into its campus.

Laying the Foundation

With input from all partners, we created a plan to add onto the existing engineering department in a way that would allow the department to operate without interruption. New concrete tilt-up panels were cast using the same mix from 13 years before. Even the same employee who sandblasted the panels on the original building sandblasted the new ones. Once the addition is complete, a corridor will be opened up between the old and new and employees will move in and start using the space. Remodeling of the existing engineering offices will then take place.

The Finishing Touches

Safety and environmental controls are of utmost importance. The addition is being constructed just feet from the main employee entrance and parking lot. Through continuous communication and planning, Hutton’s superintendent maintains the schedule with safety of construction workers and employees being top priority. The resultant addition blends seamlessly to the panels cast over a decade ago and is on schedule and under budget.
