Running the Survey

Lowen Corporation desired a state-of-the-art facility to house its growing businesses that occupied several locations around Hutchinson. The facility needed to be built around the “engine,” the owner’s term for the critical parts of a diverse printing business. Hutton Construction worked with the owner to ensure that every detail was thought through before construction began. Product delivery, production flow, storage of material, and construction materials were all broken down and reassembled to make the process most efficient, while also considering new technologies that may become part of their ever-changing process.

Laying the Foundation

Cooperation and thinking outside of the box helped develop some unique solutions to age-old problems. A “tuff stuff” bed liner coating was applied to block walls to prevent them from being destroyed by the screen-cleaning process. A central exhaust system was set up to accommodate when new machines were added or removed, so that it did not require new vents through the roof. Under-floor heat was used in the shipping and receiving area. The main plant uses a state-of-the-art HVAC system to keep both temperature and humidity constant.

The Finishing Touches

The result is a plant that operates smoothly and efficiently. The office area is spacious, functional and beautiful. The executive offices look out over the plant from a balcony that keeps them close to the “engine” and serves as a great opportunity to show clients Lowen’s unique capabilities.
