Running the Survey
After we had completed several successful projects with the Hayes Company, they came to us with the biggest challenge to date in our company’s history. The Hayes Company purchased property in Valley Center and sought to build a 450,000-square-foot manufacturing facility. The catch was that we had just seven months for construction. We are always up for a challenge, so of course we accepted.
Laying the Foundation
An open and honest working relationship was essential with Hutton and the design team to make the Hayes Company’s dream a reality. The previous projects had built trust between us and the design team, so we could hit the ground running on the new headquarters project. Working under a Construction Management agreement allowed us to set a GMP early in the process, then stagger the bid packages on a just-in-time format. This allowed site work and the building structure to begin before the design team was complete with the entire project.
The Finishing Touches
Site work on the 80-acre site began in February, and the Hayes Company was in manufacturing mode by August. When you walk into the corporate offices, a large skylight greets you with natural light shining on the corporate logo cut into the granite floor. The manufacturing space consists of a web of conveyors delivering raw materials to workstations, then the finished products are delivered to the world-class powder coat system. Following powder coating, the products are packaged and stored in the warehouse awaiting shipment. Thanks to mutual trust and collaboration, Hayes Company had a new, custom-designed and functional facility, completed within an extremely tight time frame.
