Running the Survey

Every building must have the proper feel as well as exceptional function. Visitors to Lyons Federal experience a feeling of security while relaxing in a contemporary environment. And it was a remarkable achievement. The Hutton team and the architect were asked to create a free-flowing building with easy access on a very constricted site, occupied by the original structure. In fact, the excavation layback nearly reached the property lines on three sides. Our early contribution to the scheduling and cost control helped the designer exceed the owner’s expectations.

Laying the Foundation

The Lyons Federal project was a model of cooperation and collaboration among the contractor, subcontractors, architect and owner. Since this was a Construction Management at Risk project, we were involved early in the design process and were able to provide cost and schedule guidance. This also allowed us to establish a guaranteed maximum price even before the design was finished and long before subcontractor bids were turned in. As always, safety was top priority. We conducted both daily inspections and monthly safety audits, as well as bringing in a third-party inspector. As with all our projects, weekly safety briefings – discussing such issues as fall protections, critical on this particular project – created a culture of safety among all workers

The Finishing Touches

Banks and financial institutions feel the pressure of a long tradition. The prestige look is mandatory. We’re known for bringing the polish and prestige without making the building institutional. When it comes to premium materials and hand-crafted finish, Lyons Federal is a true portfolio piece. The building features very high-end finishes such as cherry veneer and black granite, which went in with few issues thanks to planning and excellent communication among all parties: Hutton, subcontractors, architect and owner. Millwork pieces, lobby ceiling clouds, doors and trim are also cherry, with extraordinary architectural sliding door and other hardware – all installed by accomplished Hutton trim carpenters, ensuring the highest quality control.
