Running the Survey
With only one branch bank in downtown Wichita, Commerce Bank faced a dilemma when it decided to update the downtown facility. Knowing that renovating the existing building would mean disrupting the daily flow of loyal downtown customers, Commerce Bank called on Hutton Construction to provide a solution that would allow the bank to maintain its exceptional customer service during the building improvement process. After reviewing the bank’s needs, it became clear that renovating the existing building would be next to impossible while trying to maintain customer services and safety.
Laying the Foundation
Working closely with the architect, we recommended that a new bank facility be built directly adjacent to the existing to allow the bank to continue with daily services with no customer disruptions. This idea sounded crazy, as the site was tiny with only a few inches to spare. After careful planning and collaboration, we proceeded with the construction of a new building.
The Finishing Touches
The new banking facility was finished as planned, but when it opened, we were only halfway to the finish line as the old facility stood less than two inches away from the new. The process of dismantling and removing the old facility began and ended with equally as much planning and coordination as the new building demanded. All said and done, the new downtown facility represented the promise Commerce Bank fulfills every day to its customers: ask listen solve.
