Running the Survey
A historic church is a symbol to its members and to the community. When we were hired to add on to Trinity United Methodist Church in Hutchinson, we understood the addition had to complement the existing English architecture.
Laying the Foundation
Selecting the exterior finish was a collaborative effort by the entire project team. We reviewed many brick samples and, after constructing several mock walls, selected the one that made the best match. The next objective was to match the existing slate shingles. First we rounded up samples of slate, but the budget could not handle the cost of a slate roof. We continued our research and found a synthetic slate product that fit the budget and was a perfect match.
The Finishing Touches
The seamless transition from 100-year-old church to state-of-the-art gym, education wing and worship center is a testament to the teamwork and outside-the-box thinking during preconstruction. Church members were so impressed with the outcome of the 2002 addition that they hired us again in 2010 to upgrade the mechanical system and remodel the restrooms in the historical facility.
