Leadership
“When one of my team members comes to me and says he has a problem, I like to respond with 'No, what you have is an opportunity.”
What I'm Excited About Lately
Mostly the passion of the team here. Hutton has accumulated some of the most professional and driven individuals who truly care to deliver a top quality project while insuring to meet the needs of our owners, needs for schedule, budget and functionality
Favorite City Architecture
Kansas City, mainly because you don’t see metal buildings due to city standards, and people are willing to spend money on materials.

I tell people I graduated “Magna Cum-Laude” from the school of Hard Knocks,” says our head of Quality Control. His first business decision as daring 18-year-old was to take a really big pay cut. Good thinking, Troy. He took a job with a small commercial contractor as an estimator-project manager and while he wasn’t getting rich, he still thinks it was the best decision he ever made. ”I learned construction management the hard way, but it’s how I’ve gotten to where I’m at today,” says Troy, who is appreciated around here for his plain-spoken manner and sense of humor.
“If you keep your eyes open, even difficult projects will teach you – a lot – about how important it is to have a good design, a good plan to build it and that includes a good project budget. My favorite thing is to turn the keys over to the owner, knowing that we were a part of the vision they had for their growth or improvement of their business.”
Well, Troy’s kept his eyes open (most of the time) and watched Design-Build and Integrated Project Delivery revolutionize the approach around here. He also thinks the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) has done a lot to help educate owners, architects and state and local authorities to get on board with the concept. “I certainly share their enthusiasm and belief that this is the future of our industry and the best team-oriented delivery method.”
Troy and his wife, (and best friend) Lisa, and have raised Jordan, Elyse, and Doug all pretty industrious themselves, pursuing their own businesses and college degrees.
